Media Access Control Address Solution

Each network adapter has a globally unique physical address burned onto the card by the manufacturer. The physical address uniquely identifies every individual card that connects to the network cable or media. For this reason, the physical address is also call the media access control (Mac address) address.
MAC ADDRESS is six byte long. A typical Mac address might appear like this 00:00:76:54:12:10, where the first three byte is the vendors unique ID and the next three unique identify that card for the vendor. Different manufactures and brands,
places their address in different location, so it require certain command or series of clicks to see your address. I believe this is done for security purpose hence Mac address is implemented in some organizational network to maintain a high level of security profile against attacker from external login interface. In other to achieve this, the network topology will be built on Mac address filtering structure, this will then allow the administrator to manually add and monitor each device Mac address on the network.


To look for Mac address on your computer, click on the search icon to pop the search box, in the box type in CMD, this simple command will display a black command window. Type in ipconfig/all and press enter. Once you are able to enter this command properly a bunch of information about your computer will display, all you looking for is the physical address and that is your Media access control address.
But in the case that when you input this command, and you mac address displays 00:00:00:00:00:00 this could be a sign that there is no wireless adapter driver installed on your computer.

Step1 click on setting.
Step2 scroll to the bottom and click on about phone.
Step3 click on status and there you will see your WI-FI- Mac address.

To look up for Mac address on a Mac the following should be followed:
Step1 Select System Preferences from the Apple menu at the top left of your screen.
Step 2 Click Network from the System Preferences menu.
Step 3 Choose WI-Fi from the list of interfaces on the left and click the advanced button.

Using the terminal command interface:
Another easy way to find the mac address of MAC OS is to use the terminal command application.
Step 1 Launch Terminal from the Applications: Utilities folder.
Step 2 Type ipconfig into the Terminal window and press the Enter/Return key.
Step 3 you will be shown data on all your interfaces. On systems with both an Ethernet and wireless connection, en0 will be your Ethernet interface and en1 will be your wireless interface. A MAC address will be shown for both en0 and en1 this will be labeled as “ether”.
On systems with just a wireless connection, en0 will be your wireless interface. The MAC address for en0 will likely be labeled as “ether”.APPLE DEVICES

BlackBerry 10 OS:
From the home screen select Settings > Network Connections > Wi-Fi > Advanced.
In the Diagnostic Information drop-down, select Device Information.
The Physical Address field displays the MAC address for the Smartphone.
BlackBerry OS version 6 to 7.1:
From the home screen, select Setup > Options > Device > Device and Status Information.
The WLAN MAC field displays the MAC address for the Smartphone.
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5 to 5.0:
From the home screen, click Options > Status.

Importance of Mac addresses
Every network switch stores a list of MAC addresses seen at every port and only forward packets to the ports that need to receive the packet, data or information.
Wireless access points often use MAC addresses for access control. They only allow access for known devices (MAC address is unique and identifies devices) with the correct passphrase.
DHCP servers use the MAC address to identify devices and give some devices fixed IP addresses.
Mac addresses are also used as a control measure, to monitor inflow of devices in every network.
